Tagua Nuts
Tagua Nuts

The Tagua nut has great possibilities for the woodturner, particularly one who produces miniatures. It turns easily, without grain problems and sands and polishes to satin luster. No finish is applied, except for final buffing with 0000 steel wool and wax. Tagua nut ivory is a seed from a palm which grows in South America and has been used for carvings, jewelry and buttons since the time of Queen Victoria. Relatively new to the turner, this intriguing vegetable ivory nut offers another dimension in material and technique. Nuts vary in size and shape.
Standard- averages 18-20 nuts per lb.
Jumbo- averages 1 1/2" diameter
